An ongoing issues and media management retainer intensified when Allianz entered a JV general insurance business with HIH – the collapse of HIH occurred soon after.
Contingency plans were prepared in anticipation of a crisis and as the collapse occurred these plans were effectively implemented.
Extensive media briefings and tactics were used to position Allianz as a ‘white knight’ in the crisis. We provided direct, clear and reliable advice to brokers and ‘mums & dads’ policy holders in order to to minimise customer churn, while we also set up powerful visual media ‘events’ and liaised with key political advisors to ensure Allianz was publicly acknowledged as a stable and trustworthy insurer.
It all worked. Allianz navigated the crisis extremely well. Most importantly, they effectively maintained the large customer base the JV with HIH had promised.
